CBNL launches VectaStar Metro for small cell backhaul
CBNL introduces carrier-grade low-cost point-to-multipoint (PMP) small cell solution for street-level installations.
CBNL, the global leader in the development and deployment of next generation multipoint microwave technologies, today announced that VectaStar Metro, a carrier-grade backhaul solution for small cell networks, will be launched at Mobile World Congress 2013.
The latest member of the VectaStar family will be on show at CBNL’s stand 6A63, in Hall 6 at Mobile World Congress, 25-28 February, in Barcelona.
VectaStar Metro is fully compatible with CBNL’s VectaStar Gigabit macro backhaul platform to provide mobile operators with a complete network backhaul solution, or can be used in conjunction with existing microwave or fibre networks.
A highly efficient and scalable solution designed in a compact and discreet form factor, VectaStar Metro can be quickly and easily fixed to walls, lampposts or street signage with minimal set-up requirements.
Dr John Naylon, CTO, CBNL, says:
“VectaStar Metro is a significant development for operators designing and building small cell networks. We’ve taken the core of our leading multipoint microwave backhaul technology and optimised it for street-level deployment. With a compact and unobtrusive design, it is ideal for delivering high performance upgrades to existing backhaul infrastructures or as a standalone small cell solution.”
Featuring a zero indoor footprint design, compact form factor and an integrated antenna, VectaStar Metro is a powerful street level installation capable of operating in a range of frequencies (26, 27, 28GHz).
Delivering a high capacity of 300Mb/s into each small cell sector and up to 2.4Gb per hub site, VectaStar Metro aggregates cell site traffic to improve spectral efficiency by 40% compared to point-to-point systems.
Its multipoint microwave technology has also been independently proven to provide total cost of ownership savings of up to 54%* over other forms of small cell backhaul.
“We anticipate a huge increase in demand for small cell backhaul infrastructures in the next few years with the insatiable demand for mobile data services,”
continued Naylon.
“VectaStar Metro is a scalable and cost effective solution that provides the high capacity typically needed to meet the small cell backhaul demand. This makes it ideal for operators to meet their current and future small cell backhaul needs in a product platform which has been successfully proven across the globe in backhauling commercial 3G and LTE networks.”
