CBNL and VSAT deploy wireless infrastructure for ground-breaking smart city transportation system in Rzeszow, Poland
- Latest smart city initiative from CBNL and VSAT enhances speed and safety of public and emergency transportation
CBNL and transmissions systems integrator VSAT System s.j, have today announced their leading role in delivering a new Data Transmission Platform for the Intelligent Transport System (ITS) to enhance smart city capabilities in Rzeszow, Poland.
The network marks the latest project between CBNL and VSAT System, whose collaboration has put Rzeszow at the forefront of smart city innovation.
Previous work has included providing connectivity for the Rzeszow Metropolitan Area Network (ResMAN), successfully backhauling over 100 public Wi-Fi hotspots and deploying wireless broadband to more than 100 city schools and offices.
The ITS provides a single integrated communication system between public transport vehicles, traffic management systems and the public, making it quicker, easier and safer to move around the city.
At its heart is CBNL’s carrier-grade VectaStar PMP microwave platform, that provides the wireless infrastructure to connect key elements of the network, including:
- A system of traffic light management and CCTV feeds from 50 crossroads
- Passenger information and ticketing offices/machines
- Backup links for the City Crisis Headquarters
- Dynamic truck weighting system
By integrating communication to a single control centre, traffic can be monitored and controlled easily.
This enables congestion to be quickly resolved, creating highly reliable public transportation services.
People can better plan their journeys though accessing live transport information, and emergency vehicles can avoid traffic hot spots, enabling a fast response.
The business case presented by VectaStar provided a wireless solution that had the optimum balance of performance and cost efficiency to realise Rzeszow’s smart city vision.
This included interference free services through using licensed spectrum, up to 300Mb/s per link and total cost of ownership savings of up to 50 percent compared to fibre or point-to-point microwave.
The added flexibility and time-to-market benefits of VectaStar enabled a smooth network roll out that can be scaled to support future services.
"The launch of the ITS is testament to the excellent partnership between the City of Rzeszow and CBNL" said Leslaw Bandur, Director of IT for the City of Rzeszow. "We had tremendous success working together when introducing the first smart city capabilities to Rzeszow, enabling us to deliver advanced services and reduce our telecommunication operating costs by more than 60 percent. The performance, flexibility and efficiency of VectaStar was key in supporting us to deliver the ITS. This, together with CBNL and VSAT’s expert consultancy, ensured a smooth and successful roll out.”
“We’re excited to provide the infrastructure for Rzeszow’s new ITS network and see the city benefit from the solution,” adds Patrick Dravet, VP Sales Europe at CBNL. “VectaStar is ideally suited to smart city deployments such as this thanks to its optimum balance of high capacity, cost efficiency and flexibility. We look forward to continuing our partnership and bringing the benefits of our new 600Mb/s solution to the city in the future.”
“We are delighted to partner with CBNL on this landmark project,” said Maciej Eckstein, Vice President of VSAT, “We have provided project management, engineering and technical support for VectaStar, covering both the ResMAN and ITS networks. These landmark projects highlight the wide applicability of VectaStar and will pave the way as smart city initiatives become more widely deployed.”
